

Erwin, NC Mr. Sherrill “Ace” Lee Johnson, age 79 of Lucas Rd. Dunn died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Harnett Woods Nursing & Rehab. Sherrill was born in Harnett County on September 1, 1936, the son of the late Willie Waylon Johnson & Hazel Mildred Lee Johnson and is preceded in death by a brother, Waylon Johnson, Jr.; a sister, Chrystal Ann Johnson and a brother-in-law, Benny Duquette. Sherrill was a graduate of Erwin High School where he played football all 4 years and played baseball. He attended Campbell University and graduated from Appalachian State University. He was a member of The EHS Goodfellas of Erwin and a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was a coach with Anderson Creek School and then went to Western Harnett School and was a Driver’s Education Teacher. During his years at Anderson Creek he was the coach for the Girls Basketball Team and won the State District Championship also he was the football coach and won the State District Championship. He was a diehard Duke Blue Devils Fan. After retirement he worked as a security guard at Erwin Mills and then at Campbell University. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Pope, Rev. Sherrill Pope & Rev. Randy Anderson Officiating. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park. A special Friend: Kay Jones of Lumberton, NC And Many Nieces & Nephews The Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home of Tom & Doris Stewart, 501 Old Post Rd., Erwin, NC 28339.
