In Carl’s early years he was a member of Walnut Valley Church in the Fountain Lake community, where his folks, Mellie and Ed Merriott were local business entrepreneurs, owning the infamous Ed’s Eat Shop at the Hwy 5 & 7 junction. Carl met, and was immediately smitten with, a local gal named Vivian Hardin. They soon married, and that life union, lasting 64 years, was rewarded with the creation of Ronald, Carla, and Robert. While never far removed from a fishing rod or a long gun, Carl received his BSA degree at Arkansas Polytech. Temporarily setting hunting and fishing aside, he proudly served his country during the Korean War. Upon returning home from service, Carl put his BSA degree to use with Dierks Forests, Inc. Dierks, later becoming Weyerhaeuser, provided Carl his life career in Gypsum sales, with Carl retiring from there while in his early 60s. Carl never met a stranger and was never seen without a smile. Carl’s life was wonderfully successful as a son, husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all.
Loved ones preceding his passing include his parents, wife, eldest son Ronald Edward Merriott, brother and closest friend Stanley Merriott, and grandson Tyler Edward Meeker. Family left to honor and celebrate his life well lived include his daughter and her husband Carla and Van Meeker, his son and his wife Robert and Karen Merriott, his grandchildren, Wes Meeker (and Haley), Morgan Merriott (and Daniel), Adrienne Merriott (and Dan). Also missing Carl’s smile and positive presence will be a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carl’s family wishes a special thank you to Kindred Hospice who attended to Carl at the end of his journey.
Per Carl’s request, there will be no formal service.
In his honor, memorial donations would be welcome to Alzheimer’s Assoc. at alz.org or Alzheimer’s Assoc., P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090
