Charles Edward “Ed” Jones Jr. was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Charles Edward Jones Sr. and Arkie Bell (Garner) Threadgill. Charles was raised by his grandparents Isaac Houston and Willie Mae (Bagley) Jones.
Charles moved to California with his grandparents when he was 10 to help him recover from tuberculosis. He attended Fremont High school in Sunnyvale California. He joined the Army in 1958 and went to his Basic Training at Fort Ord California, then he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado for A.I.T. (Advanced infantry training). He was stationed in Germany and then served in Vietnam, where he ended his honorable service to our country. He returned to Santa Clara California where he met and Married the love of his life Jeannette (France) Jones on February 6, 1965. He obtained his General Contractors license in 1972 in The San Francisco Bay Area. He enjoyed watching old westerns, 50’s music and listening to Paul Harvey. In 1976 He retired from construction and moved to Fountain Lake where he bought a grocery store on the corner of highway 5 and 7. After several years of hard work he sold the grocery store and bought 2 big rigs and drove them cross country on many adventures in which he brought his children. In 1982 after a fire destroyed the family home “Ed” sold the trucks and invested in a dump truck, trailer and a back hoe and buried the remains of the family home and then started building roads for the county and started installing septic systems for people. In 1985 family obligations brought the family back to California where he started his construction company again and started teaching his sons the business. Charles was treasurer and later post commander at the American Legion/PAL at post #564 in Santa Clara, Ca. for several years. After several successful years he retired and returned to Fountain Lake where he has resided for the past 10 years.
Survivors include his wife Jeannette of 58 years his children Lisa VanBoekel, Dean (Tammy) of San Jose, Ca, Charles lll, Issac, and Katrina all from Santa Clara, Ca. Chris (Susan) of Hawaii and his sister in law Shirley Butler Fountain Lake, Ar. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Kevin, Brandon, Francisco, Cassandra, Victoria, Hanna, Skylar, and Marisela.
He is proceeded in death by his daughter Suzann Tovar and Granddaughter Gabriella.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Gross Funeral Home on September 27th at 1pm.
