Dolloris Ellen Fehler

Dolloris Ellen Fehler, born January 30,1941, in Point Cedar, Arkansas, to Ines Lorene Fendley and Henry Olen Fendley, Passed away January 6, 2023. Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Lee Fehler, and two brothers- Olen and Stephen Fendley. She is survived by her two daughters Shannon Johnson (Ally Simmons) and Jerri Smith (Paul); Six grandchildren Elesea Russo (John), Hannah Ashworth (Brandon), Josiah Smith (Mariah), Nathan Smith (Casey), Lola Simmons, and Maya Johnson; Seven great-grandchildren Analise, Jude, Silas, and Ezra Russo; Gideon Smith; Emory Ashworth; Ruby Smith, and two more on the way; Sister Joyce Kirk (Ron); Brothers Roger Fendley (Micci) and David Fendley (Heather).

After nearly fifty years in the Mutuel Department of Oaklawn Jockey Club, Ellen retired at the beginning of the 2021 live meet after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. She had formed lasting friendships with a host of people there, including special friends Judi Sanders and Kim Mabry who comforted and entertained her until the end. She also enjoyed participating in and attending the Chapel on the Oaklawn Jockey Club campus. Ellen was a wealth of creativity, some of which came out in crafts, paintings, and in song. She loved music and enjoyed singing. She had been a member of the Sweet Adelines choral group for a time.

Ellen was appreciative of the level of care her hospice nurse and many wonderful hospice CNAs gave her weekly. The family would like to thank all the people at Arkansas Hospice for their caring and sensitivity.

Ellen has entrusted her daughters to take her remains “to a beautiful place.” Friends and family are invited to a memorial/celebration of life at Oaklawn Park Backside Chapel (161 Golf Links Road, Hot Springs, AR) on February 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
