Judy Vermeer

Judy Kay Vermeer, 57, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026. She was born on December 10, 1968, to the late Robert and Rita Bates in Knoxville, Iowa but grew up in the small town of Pershing, Iowa, surrounded by the love of her family.

Judy was the beloved sister of Janet and Joni, as well as brothers Robert and Richard. Her family was central to her life, and she carried her love and strength through every chapter.

On September 18, 1991, Judy married Kevin Vermeer, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. She was a proud mother to Monica Burks and Caleb Vermeer, and she adored her son-in-law Garland Burks, making sure he knew how proud she was of him. Her love extended to her grandson, Jayden Burks, whom she loved dearly and cherished with all her heart.

Judy was known in her family for her ornery spirit—a loving trait passed down from her mother—and her love for life and those around her. She was fiercely loving, often expressing her affection with laughter and her signature phrase, "Here come the grannies!" inspired by her adoration for the children’s TV show Bluey. She believed in treating everyone with kindness and respect, embodying the love of Jesus and trusting fully in God's plan. Her faith was a source of strength, guiding her through life's challenges with quiet resilience.

Despite her strength, Judy was humble and rarely complained, even when she could have. Her unwavering trust in Jesus and God brought her peace, and she found comfort in her faith.

Judy was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love she shared so generously.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Rita Bates, husband Kevin Vermeer, sister Joni, and brother Robert.

Judy is survived by her children Monica Burks (Garland) and Caleb Vermeer, and grandson Jayden Burks.
