Lovie Roe of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away on January 29, 2026. She was born Lovie Elizabeth Howell on May 14, 1943 in Des Arc, Arkansas to Mary Magdalene (Clark) and James Howell. Lovie married Bruce Roe in June 1963 and had two daughters Candace and Jill.
Lovie was a hairstylist for more than three decades operating her own beauty shop in Des Arc and through the shop styled many heads of hair and made many friends. She was an avid volunteer in Des Arc working on many civic and beautification projects in Des Arc and Prairie County, including the Prairie County Fair Board, and she sang in the church choir at First United Methodist Church of Des Arc. She also organized and volunteered for a variety of pageants over the years including Junior Miss and Miss Prairie County.
She moved to Hot Springs with her family in 1989 and worked for many years in the salon at the Arlington Hotel. She volunteered with several civic and arts organizations in Hot Springs. In 2002 she moved to Hot Springs Village, again volunteering, traveling, and joining many clubs with her second husband Robert (Bob) Andree. Over the years she attended First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs and Village United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village.
In addition to being a talented hair stylist, Lovie was a gifted artist trying her hand at painting, drawing, ceramics, macrame, and sewing. She also had one of the greenest thumbs around enjoying gardening, and cultivating a wide variety of plants. If you ever met Lovie, you know that she was a social butterfly and “never met a stranger” making friends everywhere she went.
She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and James Howell, brothers Tommy and Joel Howell, sisters Lynnwood (Howell) Smith, Shannon (Howell) Keel, and Mary Jimmy (Howell) Davis, niece Sonia (Smith) Weatherley, nephew Shawn Duncan, former husband Bruce Roe, and husband Robert (Bob) Andree. Lovie is survived by daughters Candace (Roe) Klimek with husband Tomasz Klimek of Reston, Virginia and Jill Roe of Hot Springs, Arkansas, brother Louis Howell of Little Rock, Arkansas, and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in law, and friends.
A celebration of Lovie’s life is planned at her request for the spring when the flowers are in a riot of bloom in Hot Springs, Arkansas with details forthcoming.
