Ronald L. Gillman (74), of Hot Springs, AR, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer that he fought and won multiple times. He passed away in a fashion much like he lived, with a wink and a nod giving us one last look at a man that defied the odds. Surrounded by his family and the conclusion of the Lakers vs. Nuggets series…we imagined him saying “turn out the lights, the party’s over.” He will be missed.
Ron was born on October 28th, 1948 in Amarillo, TX to the late Harold & Mona (Dickson) Gillman. He was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses his entire life. He loved camping, cruising, scuba diving, “very rare” classic cars, and feeding the deer. He loved an amazing steak dinner, riding his golf cart, spending time with his grandkids whom he cherished dearly, and fishing at the ‘Banana Tree’ or at the dock…but be sure to “hold your mouth right”. His constant catch phrases will remind us of his memory and a smile on our face.
Ron is predeceased by his parents and daughter, Laurie Lee Gillman.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, JoAnn Gillman; daughters Lisa (Lance) Cook, Jill (Steve) Chapmond, Julie (Casey) Sipes, Jinna (Ray) Olmstead; 5 grandkids: Caylie (Brandon) Bartow; Allison Sipes, Ethan Olmstead, Conner Olmstead, Shawn Chapmond; and all of his pups: Coco, Gigi, Buddy & Lulu.
Special thank you to all those that gave his family extra time with him: the entire staff of Genesis Cancer Center, Dr. Robert Muldoon, Tiffany, Jimmy, Sara, Jennifer, Kyle, & Bailee, Dr. Steven Halter, Seleta, the staff at Elite Hospice & Home Health, and Justin with Gross Funeral Home.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the worldwide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses at JW.org or the American Cancer Foundation.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grossfuneralhome.com for the Gillman family.
