Stephen, (Steve), passed away April 23,2024 in Hot Springs, AR after a battle with cancer.
Steve was born in Cincinnati, OH but grew up in Nashville, TN where he attended Father Ryan
High School.
Steve moved to Memphis, TN where he graduated from the University of Memphis . Steve
worked in the investment banking industry where he developed life long friends. He also
worked for years in the mortgage industry in Memphis, TN and Raleigh, NC. He was currently
retired and enjoying his new life in Hot Springs.
Steve had a love for life, which included numerous friends and family. He was very close to his
family and loved his mother Grace dearly. He affectionately called his brothers, “Brother Jim
and Brother Tim, never just Tim or Jim. Steve and his brothers traveled yearly to Arizona with
other friends also for the famous golf trips, which he truly enjoyed. Steve also enjoyed traveling
and the occasional casino stop where he loved to play Black Jack.
Anyone that knew Steve would always recognize him by his engaging smile and that
wonderfully distinctive accent. Steve never met a stranger and would always welcome
everyone, “The more the merrier”.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Bob Viel. He is survived by his mother, Grace Viel of
Irving, TX, his brothers, Jim Viel, Irving TX and Tim Viel of Hayfork, CA. His sisters, Kathleen
Viel Hope, Apple Valley, MN and Celiene Viel Gibson of CInniccatti, OH and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Steve said that at the end he had a wonderful life and had the opportunity to do more things
than most people would ever dream of doing. Steve was one of the good guys that come along
once in a lifetime. He will be missed by everyone that knew him and especially me.
Per Steve’s wishes there will be no funeral, however a toast in his memory would be
appropriate.
