Wayne Stanley Shellenberg of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2025. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy, of 26 years; children, Janice Shellenberg (Burt Hobbs), Kristin Shellenberg (Larry Rosenburger ), Jeremy (Kathy Elbert), Robert Robbins, David Elbert (Tina Mourgoris); grandchildren; Olivia, Alexa, Robbie, Cierra, Clara and Lana and 5 great-grandchildren.
Sisters; LaVaun Shellenberg French, and Janice (Doyle Sauerwein); as well as numerous relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Abram and Alice Schellenberg, and son, Kevin Elbert.
Wayne was born in June, 1946 in Manitoba, Canada. His family moved to the United States when Wayne was a small child. When Wayne was an adolescent, he and his family moved to Houston, where he remained until his retirement. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and had a long aviation career. He worked for Rowan Companies and then TransAmerica Airlines. He spent the last 30 years as General Manager/Vice President of the Aviation Department at Cockrell Resources in Houston. Wayne loved his job and was an excellent pilot.
After retirement, Wayne and Kathy moved to Hot Springs Village during Covid in 2020. Wayne stayed busy with his entrepreneurial endeavors and with many social and community activities in local clubs. When least expected, Wayne delighted his many friends and family with clever one-liners and exaggerated tales of his exploits in strange places. Wayne was also known for his love of life, compassion, kindness and goodness.
Visitation will be held on February 14 from 5 -7 PM at Gross Funeral Home, 120 Wrights, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913. The Memorial Service will be held on February 15 beginning at 2 PM at Gross Funeral Home.
