

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church 183 Smith Lane, Houma, Louisiana 70360. Burial will follow in the Southdown Cemetery in Houma, Louisiana.

Amanda Delilah Young Payne was born January 31, 1959 to loving parents Prince and Rebecca Miller Young in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the seventh of ten siblings. She transition from labor to reward on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 7:30pm.
Amanda married Melvin Payne, Sr. on July 13, 1977 and to this union they were blessed with two beautiful children, Melvin Payne,Jr. and Shemaine Payne.
She was educated at Terrebonne High School and attended Southern University.
She was employed by Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center for forty plus years as a telecommunication operator until her retirement in March 2024.
Her fond memories are forever cherished by one son, Melvin (Darlene) Payne, Jr; one daughter, Shermaine (Demetris Taylor) Payne; six grandchildren; Destiney, Melvin, III., Byryanna, Amyrie, Reyell, Leah; two great-grandchildren; Braylon and Giovanni; two brothers, Hanson (Beverly), Jerome Young; five sisters, Brenda Montgomery, Patricia Young, Sybil Douglas, Penny ( Raymond) Robertson and Mona Young; four sister-in-law, Evelyn Young, Beverly Young, Bobbie Jean Payne, Veida Walcott; three best friends, Stacie Verrett, Brenda Butler and Mary Wade and other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Prince Young, Sr; mother, Rebecca Miller Young; husband, Melvin Payne, Sr; maternal grandparents, Charles and Emma Harvey Miller; paternal grandmother, Carrie Davis; five brothers, Prince Young, Jr., Gregory Young, Sr., Randolph Young, Glenn Picou and Steve Picou; one grandson Byron Shelby, Jr; one granddaughter, Rayna Taylor; one niece, Tonya Fisher; three uncles, Samuel Harvey, Daniel Gardener and Alvin Singleton; three aunts, Viola Harvey, Rose Gardener, Alma Singleton; three brother-in-law, Graham Douglas, Marlin Payne, Sr. and Talmadge Montgomery; mother and father in law; Leonard and Gladys Scott Payne.
