Andre Gerard Smith was born on December 15, 1962, in Houma, Louisiana, to the union of Nicholas Smith Jr. and Irma Outley Smith. He was the sixth of ten children and grew up in a loving home where faith, discipline, and family were the foundation of his life.
Andre was baptized at an early age by the late Reverend Johnny Price at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he attended from childhood into adulthood. His faith remained an anchor throughout his life.
Andre was educated in the Terrebonne Parish School System and graduated from South Terrebonne High School with the Class of 1980. He later built a career as a proud and dedicated truck driver. He loved the open road and the trucking community, and those who drove 18-wheelers with him or worked alongside him knew him as hardworking, skilled, dependable, and full of heart.
For nearly three decades, Andre courageously battled cancer with unwavering strength, faith, and determination. He never allowed his illness to define him. Instead, he faced every challenge with resilience and grace, inspiring everyone who witnessed his fight. His family is incredibly proud of the warrior he was.
Above all, Andre was a loving father, devoted grandfather, cherished son, caring brother, loyal friend, and proud godfather. Family meant everything to him. He poured his heart into those he loved, always offering advice, laughter, protection, and a helping hand. His presence made those around him feel safe, supported, and deeply loved.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving mother, Irma Outley Smith; his children, Rodney Carvin, Deidra Smith (fiancé, Brennan Garman), and Jai’Lyn Smith; his beloved grandchildren, R’ayden Carvin, Brayden Garman, Brooklyn Garman, Kohen Carvin, Rai’lynn Carvin, and Beaux Garman; his sisters, Cynthia Anderson, Natalie Taylor, Pamela Smith, Lisha Smith, and Rosalind (Alonzo) Celestine; his uncle, Lee Roy Outley; his godchildren, Jamillah White, Terell Short, and Selena Andrus; special devoted cousins, Lynette Williams Muse and T’Shiro Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, extended family, trucking brothers, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Andre was preceded in death by his son, Andre Smith Jr.; his father, Nicholas Smith Jr.; his sisters, Deidre Lynette Smith and Robin Smith; his brothers, DeWight Elroy Smith and Nicholas Smith III; his maternal grandparents, Mildred and Herman Collins and Horace Outley; his paternal grandparents, Nicholas Smith Sr. and Florence Jones Smith; his great-grandparents, Uriah and Carrie Aldridge Smith; Dock and Carrie Jones; Edward and Ella Moses Sr.; Bama and Harriett “Kitty” Outley; his niece, Jernique Anderson Coleman; his nephew, Donald Scott Jr.; his great-nephew, Blake Jaxon Lake; his aunts, Carrie Mae Smith Fletcher, Dolores Smith Williams, and Paula McKinley Outley; and cousins, Reginald Fletcher, Michael Williams, and Paulette Williams Perry.
Andre’s legacy is one of strength, faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, lessons, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
