Ernestine Poindexter Perkins

Ernestine Perkins, age 82, a resident and native of Houma, La., died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:41 AM at her residence. Ernestine was an employee of the Terrebonne Parish School System for number of years until her retirement. She accepted Christ at St. John Baptist Church in Houma, La., at an early age. Visitation will be Thursday, November 1, 2012 at New Rising Sun Baptist Church in Houma, La., from 10:00 AM until funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Officiating, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Wayne Jackson, Pastor/Teacher. Ernestine leaves to cherish her memories; two sisters, Barbara Poindexter Hartman and Bernadine (James) Charles both of Houma, La; two nieces, Debra Ann Hartman and Heather (Robert) Gobert; two great nieces; two great nephews; spiritual brother, Herbert (Lizzie) Guidry; extended families, the Parkers and the Williams; god-sister, Barbara Ann Lewis, and four god-children, Debra Ann Hartman, Margaret Young, Kimberly Parker and Sheryl Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart and Leola Nash Poindexter, her husband, Mack Perkins, her devoted companion, Isaac Thomas, and her nephew, Gregory Hartman. Ernestine's smiling face, her heart of kindness and generosity will be deeply missed, not only by her family and friends, but also by the community.
