Born and raised in Alexandria, Lankey later made Houma her home. She was a dedicated member of the community, actively involved in various organizations such as New Rising Sun Baptist Church, Grambling Alumni Association, Professional Businessman Club, Terrebonne Retire Teacher, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Iota Eta Omega Chapter.
Lankey's career as a teacher spanned 35 years, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. She retired from the Terrebonne Parish School System, where she was known for her dedication to her profession and her passion for education.
She is survived by her three lovely daughters: Angela Ashner, Natasha Ashner Wilson, and Raunda Ashner Williams, One Son in Law; Douglas Williams; three sisters: Maxine Hardy, Celestine Cole, and Ernestine Tyler; one brother: Herman Jett Sr.; six grandchildren, six bonus grandchildren, eleven bonus great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lankey was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Ashner Jr.; her parents, Mary Ellen Scott Jett and Robert Jett Jr., and two sisters, Lilly Mae Nance and Lucille Jett.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 25th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Houma. Visitation on Saturday will be held from 9:00am - 10:30am. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Ivy Beyond The Wall Memorial Ceremony will be held at 10:30am. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at New Rising Sun Baptist Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Lankey's legacy of love, kindness, and service to her community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, dedication to education, and the warmth she brought into the lives of her family and friends.
