

Deacon Larry Lee Watson, 84, a resident of Breau Bridge, LA, was born to the late Zelmo Eugene Watson, Jr. and Leola Dangerfield Watson on June 16, 1935 in Morgan City, LA and departed this life on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 1:24 p.m. at Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be observed on Saturday September 28, 2019 at the Mt. Era Baptist Church 406 Lawrence Street Morgan City, LA from 12:00 Noon until funeral services at 2:00 PM. Burial with full military honors The East St. Mary Veteran Squad will perform follow funeral services in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Larry was a veteran of the Unites States Air Force, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Larry was baptized on August 5, 1945 at the age of 10 by the late Rev. James Williams at Mt Era Baptist Church. He was the first person to be baptized in the church baptismal pool. Larry was a faithful member of Mt. Era Baptist Church until his move to Crosby Texas where he joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. After his move from Texas to Fontana, CA he served as a faithful member of Community Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon. After moving from California to Louisiana he became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Breaux Bridge, LA where he served as a faithful deacon until his death.
Larry graduated in 1953 from Morgan City Colored High School. He then served several years in the United States Air Force. Throughout his career he worked for Patterson Truck Line, Kaiser Steel, and California Steel Inc. where he retired.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three children Shaunalyn C. Watson of Lafayette, LA, Damon Paul Watson of Houston, TX, and Lori A. Watson of Breaux Bridge, LA; one aunt Sadie Robertson of Memphis, TN; six sisters Vera L Jones, Elyven M. Bobb, Patsy A. O’Gwin, Kathryn R. Thomas, and Helen M. Collins all of Morgan City, LA, Joyce E. Matthews (Troy) of Schriever LA; one brother Raymond Ruffin Sr. (Gladys) of Morgan City, LA; two sisters- in-law Rosemary Cormier (Calvin) of Banning, CA and Mildred Anderson of Baytown, TX; eleven grandchildren Durwyne J. Canty Sr., Devonne J. Canty, Tonyelle C. Canty, Anecia L Watson, Cheyenne N. Simmons, Damon P. Watson II, Cameron A. Simmons, Asianae N. Dickerson, Anaya D. Wright, Ana E. Watson, and Emanuel L. Watson; sixteen great grandchildren Durwyne J. Canty II, JaKobe K. Canty, Kerrion D.Canty, Caralise A. Canty, Kyson J. Canty, Kaja B. Dickerson, Kei’Leon A. Marzula, Kacelon A. Simmons, Carter A. Gibson, Delaney M. Calais, Malachi O. Canty, Moshe I. Canty, Kali K. Dickerson, Khloe A. Calais, Kahz D. Simmons, and Kalaya A. Canty; five living god children including Millette Robinson of Morgan City, LA and Andrea Carswell of MS; a special of group of people, the Bourdreaux Family of Breaux Bridge, LA; his furry friend, Snoopy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patrinella A. Watson; daughter Caralee Watson Canty; father, Zelmo E. Watson, Jr.; mother Leola D. Watson; mother-in-law Rosedell B Watts; father-in-law Emanuel Blair; one sister Hazel W Harris; three brothers, Zelmo E. Watson III, Lawrence D. Watson, and Albert E. Watson; four god-children Robert Jones Jr., Dionnne Thomas, Chantrell Watson, and Darriana Watson; brothers-in-law Robert Jones Sr., Ivory Thomas, Jr., Lee Otis Bobb, Alfred O’Gwin, Sr., Cane Harris, Sr., and sister-in-law Beverly R. Watson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
