

Deacon Morris Lewis, Sr., age 86, a native and a resident of Jeanerette, La., died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 3:51 PM at his residence. The Lewis family will receive extended family & friends on Monday May 26, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at Jones Funeral Home 604 Lovette St. Jeanerette, La. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the St. Jude Spiritual Devine Church in Jeanerette, La., from 9:00 A.M. until the beginning of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in St. Jude Cemetery of Jeanerette, La. Mr. Lewis was employed and retired as a Machinist for Moresi's Foundry. Also, he along with his wife, the late Archbishop Julia Lewis, were the founders & builders of the St. Jude Devine Spiritual Church of Jeanerette. Deacon Lewis loved praising God. Deacon Lewis leaves to cherish his memories; his loving eight daughters, Gloria L. Walters (Eugene), Archbishop Diane L. Colar (Felton Sr.) both of Jeanerette, La., Barbara L. Toussaint (Charles Sr.) of Charenton, La., Doris L. Joseph (Rev. Arnold Ray) of Franklin, La., Mercedes L. Francois (Ivory Sr.), Jeanette L. Walters (Dallas Sr.) both of Jeanerette, La., Pastor Monette L. Bolden (Buffus Sr.) of Abbeville, La. and Latasha Louis (Leward Davis Jr.) of Jeanerette, La.; a daughter-in-law, Glenda C. Lewis of Jeanerette, La.; three godchildren, Jerry Fontenot of Franklin, La.; Julia C. Castle (Terrel Sr.) of Lafayette, La.; and Clearance Lazaro Jr. of Jeanerette, La.; 69 grand children, 165 great-grand children, and 4 great-great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Morris was preceded in death by: his wife, the late Arch-Bishop Julia Lewis; his mother, Daisy Thornton; his father, Harry Lewis; his step-father, King Thorton; one son, Morris Lewis, Jr.; one son-in-law, Shawn Tyler; one brother, Warren Green Sr.; his mother and father-in-law, Viola and Daniel Williams, and two sisters-in-law, Rev. Martha Willery and Ellen Lee Green.
