Rev. James Allen, Sr.

A visitation will be conducted from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Jones Funeral Home chapel, 230 S. Hollywood Road in Houma. A public viewing will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. until funeral time at 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, 4928 N. Bayou Black Drive in Gibson. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Paul Allen (Janell); daughter, LaFern A. Jones; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; devoted niece, Deadre D. Short; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Bellizana Allen; sons, James, Jr. and Anthony Allen; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; parents, John, Sr. and Elnora Hawkins Allen; brothers, John, Jr., Nolan, Raymond, Webster and Lloyd Allen; sisters, Lillie Mae Verret and Cora Johnson.

Rev. Allen was in the ministry for over seventy years; he was the pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church for sixty-three years; he was the past pastor of both Residence Baptist Church and First Baptist Church; he was the former President of the Fifth District; and he proudly served on the Houma Civil Service Board for over thirty years.
