“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness danger or sword? . . . . . for I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8: 35 – 39.
Sister Abena was born on Tuesday, October 9th 1957 at Akyem Asiakwa and passed on to glory on Tuesday November 17th, 2015 in Houston, TX where she had gone for a regular hospital appointment on the 16th of November. She was the 7th of eight children born to Opanyin Daniel Ofosu Mintah (Asiakwa) and Madam Janet Owusu (Osiem) both of blessed memory.
Sister Abena attended the Asiakwa Methodist Primary, Local Authority Middle and completed her secondary school education at Adonteng Secondary at Akwapim Aburi. She then proceeded to the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) and obtained a secretarial Certificate. In the US, she obtained a certificate in computer applications.
Sister Abena worked as the secretary to the Managing Director of Marine Construction in Osu and later as the secretary to the Deputy Managing Director of Food Distribution Corporation. She also worked as a sales representative at the Tema GFDC Office. Sister Abena was a gifted seamstress from infancy, so when her older sister Elizabeth Nana Yaa Dufie left for the US, she took over the sewing business at Dansoman where she had about 30 apprentices under her. In the US, sister Abena worked with Bank of America (Downtown), A&E Company, Paradise Living and Vita Living. She was an accomplished “food maker”. She registered Adom PIE proprietorship where she made pastries (meat pies, chin chin, moi moi, and other kinds) and supplied then to several African stores. She was also the sole proprietor of Safari Fashions Enterprise.
She married her “hometown sweetheart” Elder Alex Buadu in January 1981 and have two wonderful girls, Nana Akosua Mintah Buadu (Akos) and Maame Adjua Dokua Buadu (AJ).
Born a Methodist, Sister Abena, converted to the Church of Pentecost (Alajo Assembly) in the late 1980s and was baptized by the late Apostle Onyame Tease. In the US she was ordained Deaconess by the late Apostle Annan and served as the Local Woman’s Leader for over 7 years in Houston, during the tenures of Pastor now Apostle Sampson Yiadom, Pastor Samuel Asante and Pastor now Apostle Andy Donkor. She was also a member of the District and Regional Women’s Executive during those times.
Sister Abena loved and served the Lord. One of her best statements was “since she does not know what will happen in the next time period, she will serve the Lord well.” That was her motto and she carried it to a successful end. During her hospital appointments, one consistent statement she made to the doctors was that she misses church and wants to go back to church. She was in agreement with David in Psalm 27: 4, “One thing I ask of the Lord and this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord . . . . . “
Sister Abena was a mentor to countless women in and outside the church and she used her life experiences and testimonies to impact their lives as well. She was an encourager, intercessor and a giver. She was selfless, prayerful and deep in faith. She really touched the lives of many in a positive way and has been a blessing to many.On the light side, she was playful, humorous,”Classy and Flashy”.No wonder some of her friends called her “Hollywood” due to the way she carried herself.
Deaconess Abena Mintah Buadu is survived by her husband, Elder Alex Buadu, their two children Nana Buadu and Adjua Buadu, her sisters Beatrice Serwaah, Elizabeth Nana Yaa Dufie and Mrs. Joyce Gyekye-Gyimah. There are also a battalion of “other” children, nephews, nieces and grandchildren.
The favorite Bible verse of Sister Abena was, “The Lord is my light and my Salvation, - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strong hold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1.
Our wish for you is that may your soul have eternal rest in the Perfect Peace of God. Nante Yie!! Sister Abena.
