Adolph “Andy” Alfons Anders was born on October 8, 1937, in Weimar, Texas, and lived a life defined by devotion, integrity, and quiet joy. He grew up in Houston, where he attended Catholic school—an early influence that shaped his values and remained a guiding force throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, Andy proudly served his country in the United States Army, during which he was deployed to Japan. Upon returning home, he continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Houston, a school he cherished deeply. He went on to build a long and successful career with Unocal (Union Oil Company of California). Andy was the president of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Houston from 1978-1979.
The greatest blessing of Andy’s life was meeting Martha Lee Hargis at Unocal. They married in 1968 and shared 50 wonderful years together, building a life filled with companionship, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
One of Andy’s proudest accomplishments was retiring at the age of 55, celebrating the milestone by purchasing a “brand new” Cadillac. After retirement, the couple moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where they spent the next two decades. While there, he loved playing tennis. Also he and Martha taught computer classes for seniors.
Andy was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He rarely missed a University of Houston football or basketball game on television. He and his wife enjoyed trading stocks together and found great success in their shared hobby. He loved crawfish and crab, Mexican food, delighted in watching Wheel of Fortune, and treasured time spent outdoors—especially in the warmth of the sun.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Anders and Matilda (Tillie) Hattie Janecka; also his sister, VanLee Stark, and his brother, Wilbert Anders. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Emma Lou Hargis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him with affection, gratitude, and admiration.
After moving back to Texas, Andy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, Texas. Andy remained active in his parish community until his health declined. His faith, his loyalty, and his steady, gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
