Alasdair was taken from his family in his sleep, aged 62, on May 13, 2024, while staying in New Orleans, Louisiana for work. His wife Joyce and daughters Holly and Lucy were at home in Houston, Texas. His death has left his family heartbroken and devastated.
Some comfort is being taken by the family from having had Alasdair home for the 2 weeks preceding his death while he served on Jury Duty. He felt honored to be selected and took his Civic Duty seriously.
Alasdair was born on October 16,1961 in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, Scotland to William McDermid McIntosh and Elizabeth Weir Stark, the youngest of 3 children.
His career started in ICI, Ardeer Industrial Complex, Stevenston, Ayrshire, as a Plant Maintenance Technician with a 4-year indentured apprenticeship. In the early years of his career, he worked in module yards in Scotland and offshore hook-ups in the North Sea. As his ambitions and experience grew, he went onto hold a variety of assignments in Oil, Gas, LNG and chemical projects both onshore and offshore, including 7 years of power/desalination and one mining and metals project. His international experience took him to projects in Chile, Kazakhstan, Canada, Australia, Angola, USA, UAE, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, India, Norway, Qatar, Holland and the UK.
After many years of travelling overseas, Alasdair was given the opportunity in 2011 to be based in Houston, TX with his family joining him from Scotland. Although he still travelled on occasion, the family were settled and happy to make their lives here in Texas.
Alasdair joined Venture Global LNG in October 2023, as Director of Commissioning and Startup. This was to be his final role. He was enjoying life in New Orleans, exploring the city on weekends with Joyce.
During his 40+ years career, Alasdair believed in passing on his knowledge and experience to further the career of others and has built long lasting friendships with his mentees.
Alasdair was known for his sense of humor, sometimes even at home his wife and daughters didn’t know when he was being serious or joking, so it brings great comfort to know friends and colleagues over the years appreciated his humor too. His daily quips at home will be sadly missed.
In his leisure time Alasdair followed Glasgow Rangers Football Club, enjoyed walking his furry best friends Brodie and Zara, racing on his Simulator around Monza, Italy racetrack, BBQing and relaxing on a sunbed by the pool in Cabo San Jose with a crime novel and a beer. He was into technology and kept up to date with the latest gadgets.
Alasdair will be remembered by his family for his fun and loving nature, always being there for them with support, guidance and advice regardless of where he was in the world. He was calm, never late or stressed, organized, methodical, an excellent judge of character and had an amazing memory. He was the best dad and husband anyone could wish for and provided a wonderful life for Joyce, Holly and Lucy.
The family would like to thank friends, colleagues, neighbors and family near and far for their outpouring of support and generosity as we mourn our loss.
