Alejandro Fidel Serna

May 7, 1946 - June 29, 2016

Alex (lovingly called Cando) was born at his home in Laredo, TX (in the neighborhood of Las Equis) to Cruz Serna (Father) and Ernestina Jauregui Serna (Mother) on the evening of May 7. 1946. He grew up in Laredo, until his late teens. He then moved to Houston, TX., where he met Maria Del Rosario Alvarez (of Weslaco, TX), and they married on November 26, 1966. They had three children, Alexander Fidel Serna, Jr., Roland Matthew Serna, and Ernestine Marie Serna (Martinez). Alex was always a hard working man who was ALWAYS a good provider for his family. He worked as a professional welder for Modern Welding Company for over 37 years. He always put his family first, and was the type of father that was involved in his children's lives. He was the disciplinarian and raised his kids to put their education first. Alex had suffered a series of strokes over the past few years that steadily caused a decline in his health. He passed away quietly at his home on the morning of Wednesday, June 29th, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Serna, his oldest son Alexander Fidel Serna, Jr., middle son Roland Matthew Serna (wife- Judy), and his baby girl Ernestine Marie Serna (husband- Salvador); his grandchildren (from oldest to youngest): John Martinez, Roland Matthew Serna, Jr. (wife-Clarissa), Alexander Fidel Serna, III, Andrew Rene' Serna, Jessica Marie Serna, Lorenzo Alexander Serna, Adam Gabriel Serna, Brianna Marie Serna; Siblings: Julia Ortiz, Petra Enriquez, Ofelia Molina, and Margarita Gonzalez; Preceded in death by: Ramiro Serna (brother), Jose' Serna (brother), Cruz Serna (father), and Ernestina Serna (mother). He will be remembered for his black cowboy hat and t-shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots, his .357 magnum, his movie quotes, all types of music (mainly oldies), and for his temper. He will truly be missed, but will go on living in our hearts until we meet again. May he rest in peace and in eternal glory with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 11:00am in the Grand Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery.
