

Alexander McGee Jr., affectionally known as “Paw Paw” was the first-born child to Mary and Alexander McGee Sr. on Wednesday, November 17, 1937, in Hearne, Texas located in Robertson County. He was raised in a loving family with his five sisters and brother while accepting Christ at an early age. After graduating high school, he found employment in the surrounding counties as a mechanic for a Chevrolet Dealership, a fieldhand and worked on the road crew for TXDOT. Alex married Erma Lee Garrett and to this union, three children were born, Violetter, Damon and Roshall. After his marriage dissolved, Alex moved to Houston, Texas and found his life’s calling as a building mechanic at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in The Texas Medical Center.
In 1983, his sisters and their childhood friend Linda Johnson arranged a date for him with the beautiful Mae Bell Batiste that progressed into marriage that same year on Saturday, December 17th. During this union, Alex also acquired six stepchildren, but they really became his children. Alex treated everyone with kindness, compassion, passing his knowledge on repairing many appliances, home improvements and a passion for fishing, often spending many nights on Lake Houston and The Bacliff Fishing Pier.
Alex transitioned on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 3:39pm at the hospital where he spent two decades working, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in The Texas Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his brother Winfred Douglas McGee, his children, Damon McGee, Violetter Dunn, Sheldon Batiste, granddaughter Amelia McGee, great granddaughter Deijah Jones, and great grandson Caleb Kwame.
Alexander is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mae McGee of Missouri City, TX, sons, Roshall McGee (Sherita Anderson) of Hearne, Texas, Lary Batiste (Rachel) of Missouri City, TX, Rickey Batiste of Houston, TX, daughters Yolanda Charles of Spring, TX, Lisa Davis (Carl) of Missouri City, TX, and Kathy Lee (Faye) of Rosharon, TX along with 30 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild who was recently born. Alexander is also survived by his five sisters, Violetta Anthony, Ruby Fay Harper (Richard), Opal Taylor (Mack), Thelma McGee and Eva McGee, all of Houston, TX.
Alexander was a man of true integrity who absolutely loved his wife and family. He did everything to make us happy until his health started to take its toll, and still he did all he could to make sure his family stayed as a cohesive unit.
A visitation will be held at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 7010 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081, on June 28, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. The funeral service will follow at the same location, starting at 10:00 am.
The graveside service will take place at Houston Memorial Gardens, 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581, on June 28, 2025, at 12:00 pm.
