Allen Martin Hooper passed away on February 26, 2025 in Tomball, Texas at the age of 90. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Allen was the son of Martin C. Hooper, and Olive Hortense Alexander Hooper. Allen attended Harlendale High School, where he was an All-State star tight end, 3rd basemen, and a scratch golfer.
Allen’s father, uncle and older brother were all pipefitters, so it was no coincidence that he followed in their footsteps as a pipefitter in UA Local 142. He soon used his earnings to purchase his prized 1954 Corvette. Each day, while driving home, he noticed a beautiful young woman named Helen Klitsch sitting on her aunt’s front porch who happened to live on the other end of his street. One day, he decided to stop and talk to her and the rest was history. They fell in love and Allen proposed to Helen in that Corvette on the historic Olmos Dam in San Antonio.
Allen joined the Army toward the end of the Korean War and Helen agreed to wait for his return. While Allen was deployed to Korea, he and Helen kept in touch writing letters which solidified their love for each other. A month after Allen’s return in 1957, he married Helen at her parent’s church, All Saints Catholic Church in Houston and were married for an incredible 67 years.
In retirement, Allen spent much time attending his grandchildren’s games and following each of their numerous events and activities with great interest and pride. He truly loved his family and his family truly loved him. Allen had a forceful and determined nature, but was extremely thoughtful and kind. Through the years, there was never a moment he would not be there to support his family, and it is fitting toward the end, his family was there to support him. Allen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife and family members.
Allen is survived by his wife Helen Hooper, his son Duane Hooper and wife Cindy of Dataw Island, South Carolina, Daughter Dawn Baker and husband Robert of Lakeway, Texas, his son Derek Hooper and wife Laura of Cypress, Texas and Deirdre Dee Dugat of Houston, Texas. Allen’s Grandchildren are, Jessica Barefoot, Jacob Long, Ryan Baker, BreAnn Hooper, Nicholas Hooper, Chloe Horn, Kyle Dugat, and Sarah Brown and was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Jonathan Hooper. Allen was proud to also have numerous Great Grandchildren.
As a proud veteran, Allen’s desire was to be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, near his beloved sister Kathlene Anderson and her husband Andy, their son Randy, and Allen’s brother Condon “Bubber” Hooper. Allen will be laid to rest on Thursday, March 6, 2025 in an intimate graveside ceremony.
