

Alvin was born in Gonzales, Texas on January 15, 1943. He moved to Houston in 1963 to attend drafting school. He met his wife Helen in 1964 and they were married the following year. He proudly served six years in the National Guard, where he was stationed at both Fort Bliss and Fort Polk. In 1968, following his passion, he founded Alvin Oncken & Associates, where he led the company as a building designer for 45 dedicated years.
An avid gardener, fisherman, and Astros fan, Alvin loved sharing his hobbies with his sons and grandchildren. He loved to cook and entertain friends and family, and had a gift of quiet wit and warmth that was deeply appreciated by all who had the pleasure of his company. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ella Oncken, and his brothers, Beno and Alton Oncken.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Helen Palmer Oncken; his brother, Paul Oncken and sisters, Ruth Barker and Julia Oaks; his three sons, Robert Oncken, Kent Oncken, and Gary Oncken; their wives, Patty Oncken and Jessica Oncken; his grandchildren, Lindsay Oncken, Alyssa Ballard, Austin Oncken, and Katelyn Oncken; and many close friends.
Visitation will take place at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home on Friday, October 9th from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Services will be held Saturday morning, October 10th, at 11:00am also at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home.
