Alzena Fuselier entered this world in Port Arthur, Texas on February 2, 1934. She was born to proud parents, Selina and Terrance Fuselier. She grew up and attended schools in Port Arthur Independent School District, Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from Abraham Lincoln Senior High School in Port Arthur.
For a time, Alzena lived in Brooklyn, New York, where she met Abram (“Abe”) Moss. On September 29, 1961, they were joined in Holy Matrimony and began a beautiful life together. In 1962, Abe was discharged from the Navy. While in Brooklyn, Alzena worked in the field of home health. She and Abe were also owners of a restaurant. In 1971, the couple moved to Houston, Texas, where Abe had grown up. Alzena continued to work in home health, at one time taking a patient, Josie, into their home. She lived as a part of their household for the remainder of her life. Subsequently, Alzena became a full-time homemaker and her mother came to live with them. She, too, lived there for the remainder of her life.
Alzena had accepted Christ as her savior early in life and, after moving to Houston, she and Abe united with Homestead Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. R. A. Williams. They later moved their membership to Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. R. E. Easly. During the 1980’s, the couple united with New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where the Reverend Wiley L. Dunn was the pastor. Abe became a deacon and they continued their membership under the current pastor, Rev. Charles E. Turner. Alzena was a deaconess and participated in the General Mission.
Abe and Alzena did most everything together. Along with their church activities, Abe and Alzena became members of the Masonic Order and the Order of Eastern Star (OES), respectively. Alzena was a member of Electa Chapter # 288 OES and was a Past Worthy Matron of her chapter. Abe was the Patron of their chapter.
Alzena and Abe had an entrepreneurial spirit and made and sold boudain for some time. They also prepared fried turkeys during another time. Alzena could operate a computer and dedicated a great deal of time to researching her family genealogy. Affectionately called “Aunt Beannie” by nearly everyone, Alzena was known to be quite bossy. She maintained this particular character trait throughout her life. She was fortunate to have her nephew, Clarence, and her “adopted grandson”, Greg, to assist her in doing things her way until the end.
On June 21, 2021, at 1:23 p.m., Alzena Moss returned to the loving arms of God at the Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three sisters: Louanna Scott (Dennis), Ramona LeFleur (Aaron), and Irma Broussard (Henry George); and niece/goddaughter, Alzena Washinigton. Aunt Beanmie leaves, to cherish her memory: one sister, Marion Fuselier Howard (Otis, Sr. - deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; godchildren: niece, Selina Robbins, Dia William, Damian Hamilton, and Tina Moyle; adopted grandson, Gregory (“Greg”) Clark (Ramona); long-time neighbor, Genetha Martin; and other family and friends.
