Andrew Robert Clarkson, beloved son, brother, and friend to many, passed away on the 25th of November 25 in Houston, Texas. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
Andrew was born in Dallas, Texas in 1985 and moved to Houston with his family in 1990. Born and raised in a home filled with energy and love, Andrew grew up playing every sport he could. He found joy in competition, teamwork, and simply being outdoors. From a young age, he developed a lifelong passion for nature and greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. He was always happiest with fresh air on his face and open sky overhead. Andrew was relentlessly adventurous, but at the same time excelled in school. He attended both St. Francis Episcopal Day School and graduated from Episcopal High School with academic honors.
Andrew proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he demonstrated strength, courage, discipline, and unwavering dedication to his fellow soldiers and country. In 2009, he successfully completed basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia and was awarded several expert marksmanship awards. His first posting was Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, where he completed all his pre-deployment training. In 2010 Andrew deployed and served with the 1st Infantry Heavy Brigade Combat Team in Kirkuk, Iraq. While serving in Iraq, Andrew was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. Andrew was honorably discharged in 2012, after completing almost 4 years of service.
Those who knew Andrew remember him for his unique mind. He was extremely smart, endlessly curious, and always full of ideas. He carried a natural charisma that drew people in, paired with a passionate and friendly spirit that made everyone feel welcome in his presence. Whether sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or lighting up a room with his enthusiasm, Andrew left an impact everywhere he went.
Andrew adored his dog Annie, his constant companion and source of comfort and joy. Their bond was unmatched. While working in Houston, Andrew, always accompanied by Annie, became an avid disc golf player, and they traveled around the U.S. to tournaments.
Andrew is survived by his mother, Tanya and father, Jon; brother, Jonathan and his wife Margaret and nieces Louise and Jane; his sister, Haley and her husband James, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered throughout the United States, all of whom will forever cherish his memory and the light he brought into their lives.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 5th of December at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian is to officiate.
