April Cutshaw Metz passed away October 3, 2021. She joins God alongside her father Gene and sister Michelle. She was a remarkable person, and as such this will not be your formal obituary. She was beautiful, kind, ornery and was generous to a fault. She was born a Yankee, (Coast Guard) but truly was a Southern soul. She grew up everywhere from Palm Beach to Tennessee and several points in between.
When she was 4 years old, her mother Elaine married Mark Baldwin on Christmas day, a Vietnam veteran who would be the defining paternal influence in her life. At age 16, she met Carey Metz, whom she wed at 23 and had four children with. Cole, Canon, Everett and Grady were the focus of her life; she was ever present from the likes of baptism to African safaris. April was a born equestrian; and Canon followed in her footsteps. She was a profound reader of English literature, a passionate citizen of western North Carolina, and an ardent admirer of Georgian/Federal architecture. She was sarcastic and funny, a quick wit, acerbic yet kind; all at the same time. There will never be another April Cutshaw Metz. God rest her soul. We all loved her, and always will.
A special thanks to Gary O’Donnell, a present and constant friend and companion the last several years. All of our lives are better and touched by her presence in our lives. Her love and light continue on through her love of her children and her grandson Roswell Silver-Way. May God bless her on her way.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3816 Bellaire, Texas 77401.
