

Ted served in the United States Navy, in Norfolk VA., from Feb. 1946 until Dec. of 1947~receiving “Victory” and “Good Conduct” medals, culminating with an Honorable Discharge. He attended Baylor University in 1945, Schreiner Institute from 1948-50 before graduating from the University of Houston in 1952, with a B.A. Degree. His athletic accolades included 5 Varsity letters in Football and 3 Varsity letters in Basketball and named “All Conference End” for Football in 1949. Most of Ted’s professional career was spent in the oil and gas industry, serving as a Sales Engineer for Mobil Oil and FMC Fluid Control Division, from which he retired. Ted rejoined the workforce for 5 years with Loading Systems, Inc.
Ted Giles was a devoted husband and loving and supportive father, a man full of love and tolerance. He was a devoted Christian man that blossomed when surrounded by family and friends. He never met a stranger. A hug or handshake from Ted forever bonded one to a friend for life. He will be so missed by all those that loved and shared his life. Some of his proudest accomplishments were his involvement in the Spring Branch Community Football League. Ted served as a coach of a youth football team, the Rangers, for 13 years as well as a term as Commissioner of the Conference. He was also instrumental in the creation of a Little League Baseball Association in Spring Branch and in creating the Little League Baseball Fields that occupy Spring Branch to this day.
Born the 2nd son of John Jerome Giles and Bernice Jones Giles, both preceded his death. A brother John Jerome Giles Jr. preceded Ted as well. Doris Giles, his loving wife of 50 years, passed away in 2002. Ted and Doris had 5 children, Teddy Giles, Michelle Giles, Roy Jerome Giles and spouse Mary, Joseph Matthew Giles and spouse Tommylu, and John Luke Giles and spouse Carrie. He is also survived by grandchildren Justin Giles, Kylie Wright, Jordan Giles and Spencer Giles. Ted was blessed to be able to know his great grandchildren Caden Giles and Kinley and Weston Wright. Additional family members Dr. Del Chumley and family, Sherra Miller, Steve Wheaton, Margaret Harrison, his beloved cousins Maurice, Bobby, Jan and Yvonne and their beautiful loving families, multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews. Noting his niece Cheryl Massey and husband with whom he was able to reconnect. Ted also maintained a second family…The Memorial City Gang. Harold Ogden and the “Gang” was his lifeline after the devastating loss of his adored wife Doris in 2002. A very heartfelt thank you to each and every one of those that befriended or reached out and supported our Father, Ted Giles, these many years. GOD BLESS! Thank you as well to the nurses and doctors at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital and the nurses and caregivers at VITAs Hospice Care and Elderly Home Health Care Inc.
