While cheering on his beloved Astros, Arthur Ramirez passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on the evening of August 17, 2024. As the family meteorologist he would have described the evening as a hot muggy night with an almost full super moon. Arthur lived a full and loving life with his family and dear friends. As many can attest, he never met a stranger and was always willing to provide a helping hand to those who needed it.
Arthur was born November 2, 1938, to Eduardo and Angelina Ramirez in Houston, TX. Arthur was a proud alumnus of Reagan High School and an active member during his youth at St Theresa Catholic Church where he served as Altar Boy. Upon his graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14). Upon completing his service, he returned to Houston in the pursuit of love.
Arthur met the love of his life while scaling her parents’ fence to get to his girlfriend’s house. Her parents should have known then he would be a handful and keep them on their toes. To say Lydia and Arthur had a long and loving relationship would be an understatement as they recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren.
Arthur is survived by his wife Lydia, daughter Lisa Forero, Daughter Angela McBride (Perley), Son Arthur Ramirez, Daughter Andrea Cline (Tom). As well as 12 grandchildren, Valorie Allen (Andrew), Lyllie Johnson (Chase), Mollie McBride, Kerina McBride, Alexis Ramirez, Emily Ramirez, Isabelle Ramirez, Angelina Ramirez, Edward Ramirez, Kymberlynn Cline, Kyleigh Cline, & Tyler Cline as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Eduardo & Angelina Ramirez, Father and Mother-in-law Toney & Angelina Hernandez, brother-in-law, Anthony Hernandez, Brother and sister-in-law Pete & Elouise Lopez, son-in-law, Gustavo Forero, & daughter-in-law Marina Ramirez.
Arthur will always be remembered for his love of his family, Houston Astros, Houston Texans, University of Houston and the weather. His children and grandchildren could always count on getting a call from him to warn them of impending weather in their area regardless of where they were in the world at the time. When helping take care of his grandkids he would teach them to count by fingers using the UH Cougar hand signal to say some of them can only show you three by showing you Shasta’s paw.
His love for his children and grandchildren will endure the test of time and his legacy will last forever. The family requests donations to one of his favorite Curing Kids Cancer (https://curingkidscancer.org/donate/for-loved-one) in lieu of flowers.
The family invites you to join us for his visitation on Monday August 26th at American Heritage Funeral home from 4 – 8 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday August 27th at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church at 11 AM. Committal service will be held at Houston National Cemetery at 12:45PM. We will receive family and friends for a reception following committal at 1:15PM at American Heritage Funeral Home.
