Ashlee was born on July 14, 1988, in Houston, Texas, to Charles Glen and Robbye Gail Johnson. From an early age, Ashlee’s spirited personality was evident. Ashlee was known by many nicknames throughout her childhood, but one that stuck was “Bud,” a name lovingly given to her by her dad and carried with her always. She was her mother’s true mini-me, sharing not only her looks but her mannerisms and unmistakable attitude. Ashlee shared an especially close bond with her sister, Alizabeth; the two were thick as thieves, often finding themselves wrapped up in late-night shenanigans and laughter. Throughout her childhood, she spent time at her Granny’s bookstore, where she could often be found alongside her cousins—usually up to no good and pulling pranks. Ashlee was affectionately known as the leader of the grandkids’ pack. Family meant everything to Ashlee, and some of her happiest moments were spent gathered around the table playing card games like Uno and Skip-Bo, where her competitive spirit and infectious smile shone brightest.
As a child, Ashlee loved to sing and participated in choir during her elementary and junior high school years. Her joy for music and self-expression carried with her throughout her life. During high school, she participated in JROTC, continuing to show her confidence, discipline, and leadership.
From an early age and throughout her life, Ashlee had a deeply rooted love for animals. She had a special place in her heart for cats and rescued four of her own, caring for them with the same devotion and compassion she showed to everyone she loved.
Known for her sense of style and personality, Ashlee had an obsession with cups and bags and was rarely without her makeup and hair supplies close at hand.
Ashlee is preceded in death by her father, Charles Glen Johnson; her cousins, Justin Allan Brock, and Lane Lawson; and her grandparents, (Pappy) Floyd and (Mammie) Joyce Johnson, (Pawpaw) Robert and (Nan) Linda Deisch, and (Papaw) Danny Wilson.
She is survived by her mother, Robbye Gail Johnson; Sister, Alizabeth Johnson and fiancé Wade Covington; Partner, Jennifer Hernandez; Goddaughter, McKenzie Dominique; Granny, Linda Wilson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Ashlee will be remembered for her strong spirit, her laughter, her leadership, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.
