Avis Marie Lassiter Leavitt

AVIS MARIE LEAVITT, born in Troup, TX on May 30, 1936 went home to be with the Lord Thursday March 22, 2012. She was seventy-five years old and resided in Houston, TX. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Boyd of St Petersburg, FL and Katrina Leavitt of West Des Moines, IA and her son Jacob Leavitt of Houston, TX. She was blessed with seven grandchildren Micheal Boyd of Land ‘O Lakes, FL, Richard Horn of Houston, TX, Christy Mason of Plano, TX, Benjamin Horne and wife Allie Horne of Houston, TX, Sara Leavitt of Overland Park, KN, Taylor Wright of Uppsala, Sweden and Jordan Wright of Santa Cruz, CA and five great-grandchildren Benny Orosco, Sammy Mason, Savannah Boyd, Faith Boyd and Bailey Boyd. She is also survived by her only sibling/brother JC Lassiter and wife Anita Lassiter. She was predeceased by one daughter Cynthia Aline Wright and one son Richard Dewayne Wright.

She was dealt a life changing blow in 1970 and she could have accepted her life would never change, but chose to pull herself up by her proverbial ‘bootstraps’ and survived to be a strong independent and productive sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was retired at age seventy and had just recently survived lung cancer.

Visitation will be March 29, 2012 from 5pm until 8pm. Her service is scheduled for March 30, 2012 at 3pm.
