Barbara Wanda Castleberry was born in Bivins, Texas on August 8, 1941, one of seven children to the late Willie Lee (Jodie) and Catherine (Sugar) Castleberry. She professed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Aberdeen Baptist Church in Bivins, Texas.
She received her formal education in Rambo of McCleod, Texas and Pruitt High School of Atlanta, Texas. After high school graduation, she attended Wiley College, in Marshall, TX.
Affectionately known by her family as “Too Sweet”, due to her loving, and kind spirit. She moved from Texas to California to be closer to her mother and other sisters.
Barbara’s greatest role was that of a mother to her three children, Leslie (proceeded in death), Kevin, and Bernice. After returning to Houston, she cherished and looked forward to Kevin’s visits from California, and shared a special mother-daughter bond with Bernice.
Barbara had a great love for spending the holidays with her family, and sharing special meals together. She had a unique sense of humor with a contagious laugh. Her birthdays were joyous occasions celebrated with fun, cake, ice cream, and gifts from near and far.
She joined Faith Temple Church of God in Christ and was a loyal and dedicated member until her health failed and she was unable to attend.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents, Willie Lee (Jodie) and Catherine Castleberry, son, Leslie Howard Martin, one brother, Edwin Earl Castleberry, three sisters, Myrlean Rambo-Hudson, Evelyn Nicholson, and Lillian Brumfield.
She departed this life on September 12, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving son, Kevin Bailey and daughter Bernice Roberts; Three devoted sisters Sedalia Mitchell (Waylon), Sophia White, of Houston, Texas, Selma Rogers of Raymore, Missouri; A hosts of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Barbara will be dearly missed by those she loved and those who loved her.
