Barbara Lee Brown Harris was born on November 20, 1932, in Manhattan, Kansas to Frank and Leora Brown. She died peacefully at her home on August 16, 2021, at the youthful age of 88. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Wayne, her son, Wayne Jr., her parents, and her brother, Fred. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Gail (Mike) Henney, daughter Debbie (Randy) Starr, and son Kevin (Randi) Harris. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren Lezlie, Wayne, Jamy, Chris, Heather, Jenny, Alan, Michael, Heidi, Brandon, Hannah, Lucy, Mary and her beloved 28 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was the 3rd of 6 children. She will be missed by her surviving siblings Gwen, Winnie, Marilyn, and Robert. The family grew up in Junction City, Kansas. After high school she met a handsome soldier stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and she and Wayne Harris were married on December 19, 1952. They were later sealed in the Provo, LDS Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They traveled around the country as Wayne worked as a professional magician and Barbara as his assistant. They settled down to raise their children, Wayne Jr. Debbie, and Kevin, in Houston where they opened Harris Automagic, a garage and body shop. After Wayne’s death and the sale of their business, Barbara went to work as a district aide for Ft. Bend ISD until her retirement. She was talented in the arts – sewing, singing, writing, cooking, and painting. She loved the beach and with her green thumb she could grow anything. She noticed things that others didn’t and provided special memorable touches everywhere she went. She noticed people that others didn’t and provided service in exceptional ways. She loved serving in the church and was very involved with Family History at the time of her death. She loved her ancestors and found immense joy in learning about them. She cherished her “longtime friends” group and their eternal friendship. Although Barbara had a few health challenges during her 80’s, her sense of humor remained sharp, and she never let these challenges get her down. She was spunky, strong willed, and quick minded right until she peacefully passed away in her sleep.
