Barbara Beth Scanio

Barbara is survived by her children, Amanda Dye of Cedar Park, Texas and Alan Scanio of Houston, Texas, from her marriage to Tom Scanio of Brenham, Texas, grandchildren Alison and David Dye and Cynthia Scanio and her brother, Philip Rosten of Madison, Wisconsin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Philip Rosten and Ellen (Crader) Rosten of Madison, Wisconsin.

Barbara was born on February 21, 1948 in Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Tulane University in 1970 with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. She earned her Master’s degree in Library Science in 1996. She married Tom Scanio, an electrical engineer, in 1970. Over several years, the couple welcomed two children into their home. Her children remember her as a patient mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

During her life, Barbara was an accomplished librarian, painter and organist. She was a witty individual who loved reading and who was passionate about providing access to literature.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m., May 15th, 2015 at 9149 HWY 6N, Houston, TX 77095 with a reception to follow. The family would like to thank the hospital staff at Cypress North Medical Center for their care.
