

Benjamin (Ben) D. Freiler, 89, of Houston, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was born August 11. 1925 in Lancaster, Pennyslvania. Upon receiving his Masters of Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, Ben began his career as an elementary school teacher and later as as the principal of West University Elementary. His job allowed him to travel the world, including Japan, Germany (where he met his wife), and Sicily. Ben was a veteran of the US Army and served his country with honor.
Ben was a member of the Houston Association of Retired Teachers (HART), an avid bridge player, and a volunteer English teacher for 25 years through the South Main Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing tennis, working out at the gym, and taking long walks. Ben was a gentleman through and through. He was a loving person, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.He conducted life with order, precision, and concern for others. He always had kind words to say, and showed charity towards numerous organizations. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by Marie, his loving wife of 48 years, his parents and two sisters. Ben is survived by his brother, 3 sisters, and many nieces and nephews, including: Rebecca Smith and her husband, Milford;Jeannine McEwin;Monroe Brewer and his wife, Geneva;Frank Brewer;Robert McEwin; Rick Scott and his wife, Cathy; Karen Miller;Sandy Robinson;Ken Johnson and his wife, Melissa;Carla Redfield and her husband, Jimmy. Lisa Trammell and her husband, Tom;Courtney Smith and her husband, Bryant; Teresa Schroeder and her husband, Billy Joe; Mark Brewer and his wife, Lauri; Tim Brewer; McKinsey, Chelsea and Megan; Jennifer Thomson and her husband, Adam;Jonathon Scott and his wife, Allison;Travis Robinson and his wife, Paige; Jamie Miller;..and his cat Smokey.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
