

Benjamin Charles Lakey, Sr was the 4th of 7 children born to Willie Lakey and Anne Elizabeth Brown in Houston, Texas on March 15, 1949. In early life he was reared in Houston and later the family relocated to San Antonio where he graduated from Brackenridge High school in 1968.
Benjamin united in matrimony with Deborah Pyles in 1969 and to that union they have one daughter Antoinette Althea Lakey. Benjamin joined the United States Army in 1970 and served in the Vietnam War.
In 1973 Benjamin and Rosa Lee Harper were married and to that union three children were born, Elizabeth Beanash Lakey, Benjamin Charles Lakey, Jr and James Edward Lakey. Benjamin, traveling the world he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army for 22 years and was Honorably discharged in 1990. Settling in San Antonio, then finally in Houston he chose to continue his education at Texas Southern University graduating in 2001 with his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. Ben
served in Afghanistan and Kuwait as a civilian contractor and briefly as a procurement contractor in Houston.
Affectionately, “Big Ben” to many he was an avid fisherman and if he wasn’t on the water, he was in his garage working on classic cars or riding his Harley Davidson up and down the
highway visiting with family and friends sharing his lust for life and history.
On Wednesday March 13, 2024 in Houston, Texas Ben transitioned from his earthly body to glory.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children Antoinette, Elizabeth, Benjamin Jr (Cassandra),and James (Sherry). Grandchildren Tomika, Alexandria, Ezekiel, Emmanuel and Jade. Great Grandchildren Elaine & Weston. Three sisters, Sharon Lakey, Stella Brown Adrian Cruz; two brothers Paul Lakey and Willie Lazone Grays. And a host of Aunts, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers Bruce, John, Robert, William, Vincent and 1 sister Millicent.
