

Mrs. Betty Joe Caldwell was born on May 15, 1939 in Palmer, Texas a small town near Dallas. She was one of twelve children in the family of Lucille and David McBride.
Many of her early years were spent at the home of her grandmother Birdie Mae Gabriel along with her aunt Betty Jean, who was close in age.
She attended what was then Carver Elementary School and graduated from George Washington Carver High School. She remained in the Acres Homes community throughout her life.
She attended several Baptist churches over the years but joined Greater Progressive under the leadership of Pastor Forrest D. Kindley and Rev. Oliver Taylor where she attended faithfully until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Birdie Gabriel, parents, Lucille and David McBride; Aunt Betty Jean Caldwell, and siblings, Melissa McBride, Joseph McBride, Sharon Marshall and Vivian Routt.
She leaves to mourn her death her only daughter Wendolyn Smith (Charles) who gave her mother the ultimate in loving care and made sure all her needs were met and provided for her daily wishes.
Her passing is also mourned by her grandchildren Shaun Hall and Ashley Smith and great grandchildren Maxiumus Smith, Shaun Hall, Jr., Shawn Phlegm, Savion Randle, Shaqcory Randle, Donovan Woods and Ashanti Keith in addition to her siblings Rachel Davis (Roosevelt), David McBride,Jr., Cynthia McBride, Sylvia McBride, Gwendolyn McBride, Marilyn McBride and Michelle Shepherd (Robert). There are also many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly but the family is sincerely grateful for the support of Lourine Davis Cook and Renita Davis Robinson for their compassionate nursing skills. She would also like to thank her aunts for their love and support during this time, and over the years.
A visitation for Betty will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A celebration of life will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A committal will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Cemetery Beautiful, 8401 Wheatley, Houston, TX 77088.
