

Betty Lott Monaghan, age 92, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 after a lingering battle with dementia. Betty was born in Lissie, Texas, on July 29, 1923, to Richard W. Lott and Inez Rita Schultz. Betty is predeceased by her parents Richard and Inez Lott and her sister, Dorothy Lott Cross.
Betty is survived by her husband of 73 years, Arthur Earl (Monty) Monaghan. Daughters, Kathy Monaghan Phillips of Houston, Texas, Patricia Hugg of Newport, Arkansas, and son Michael Wayne Monaghan (Betty) of White House, Tennessee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michele Jones, Amanda Bergfield (Christopher), Aimee Phillips, Patsy (P.J.) Rawls (Aubrey), Michael Monaghan, Jr. (Stephanie), Tracy Murphy (Carl) and Dallas Hugg (Ashley), and step-granddaughter Stephanie Jayne Ayers (Jason). Betty is also survived by her brother, Richard Lott (Martha) of Weatherford, Texas and her fourteen great grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Betty graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1941. In 1943 she followed the love of her life to San Diego, California, where she and Arthur married on January 19, 1943. They lived in San Diego where she worked at the aircraft factory which made B-24 Bombers. When Arthur was shipped out in August, 1943, Betty returned to Houston where she worked for the Texas Company (Texaco). Betty's favorite pastime was sitting for hours doing cross stitch work. Betty and Arthur loved to travel to Branson, Missouri, where they would meet up with old friends. She loved to travel with her family and be around her grandchildren.
The family is eternally grateful to Yulonda Webester, Beverly Bentley, Joanne Mass, LaKeisha Webester and Chandra Pierce for their compassion, loyal support, friendship and care.
Visitation will be held at Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek on February 25, 2016 from 4pm - 8pm. Funeral service will be on February 26, 2016 at 11am with a graveside service to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
