Beverly was born in Houston, Texas on the 13th of November 1930, to Robert and Eva Balfanz, the owners of the then well-known Balfanz Pharmacy in the Heights. She attended Reagan High School and was a member of the 1948 graduating class. From there Beverly continued her education at the University of Texas at Austin where she began dating Vincent Buckley, who was a UT Law student at the time.
Beverly married Vincent in 1951 and the two of them shared wonderful experiences and life together, including traveling across the world with their children Bruce and Brenda in 1966, to live in Hong Kong for three years. Vincent had been transferred to work there during his time with Dow Chemical. In 1969, the family returned to Houston for good. Beverly and Vincent remained married for fifty-four years until his death in 2006.
Beverly’s love for life was infectious for anyone who surrounded her. She loved to travel and shop- or just shop, play bridge, dine out, dance and be with friends.
Beverly is survived by her son Bruce Buckley, daughter Brenda Harris and her husband Mark, grandson Blaine Buckley and his wife Kristen, granddaughter Elizabeth Buckley, sister Barbara Allbritton and nephew Robert Allbritton, and his wife Elena and their three children Alex, Katie and Tory.
The family thanks Lala Ruta and all of her “Happy Helpers” for taking such heartfelt care of Beverly. We also thank Rosario Mendoza for her assistance and devotion to Beverly. She was loved by all of us and will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 7th of November 2024, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
