Dear Mom,
I just wanted to say I Love you and you will always be in my heart. You and Dad have always been here for me, even when I was less than a “model” child and I use the term very loosely. 
You got my sense of humor and style. Last year for Christmas you got me 2 t-shirts one saying “I remember the words my mom always said to me… What the heck are you doing” which “heck” in my case can be substituted with many other interjections. The other shirt printed with the phrase “I’m a procrastinator and a perfectionist… One day I’ll be perfect”. One day I will Momma, I am working on it, I promise (which is a phrase I am sure heard way too often from me!). You understood me, when some people don’t.
You always had an open ear to let get things off my chest.
You used to tell everyone about the time the psychologist said, “you have nothing to worry about, he is so smart he will have a secretary”. “But you didn’t know it would be you that would become my secretary”. But honestly, although I don’t think you would have trusted anyone else to do it. And I don’t think I will ever find anyone that would be able to do it as well as you. You handled all my mail and taxes and bills as I worked. Even in your final weeks as bad as you were feeling you got my taxes sent to Tom which was the last thing on my mind (I would have probably never got them done). 


So this week was a sad one for me as I lost one of my favorite people in this world!  Beverly was the very first friend I made in Katy 20 plus years ago.  She quickly became my surrogate mom here (sorry Brenda but she was definitely the “cool” mom) and then of course she became my children’s surrogate grandparent.  She never missed a birthday (oh how she loved a good Hallmark card), she sat through every theatrical production they were in, and she genuinely loved knowing what was going on in their lives.  
But the most fun I ever had with this lady had to be our awesome bunco group that she helped start soooo many years ago in Canyon Gate.  Beverly quickly became the matriarch of that group and if we sat around and talked too long she would fervently ring that bell to get us back on track.  There were prizes to be had and she always came to win (and to those who believed her when she said “better watch Jill, she cheats”, I swear it’s not true… well, mostly not true).
Things I’ll miss about Beverly  are the random phone calls telling me that Morehead State is on TV (which I could totally care less about); our conversations about the funny obituaries in the Sunday paper (yes, we were weird like that); and of course my annual Derby party  just won’t be the same without her.  Just like in bunco, she was there to win and was always pissed that everyone in her family would win something and she’d leave empty handed.  But of course she will always be there in spirit, especially since the shrimp ceviche I have made every single year was her recipe and is always the crowd fave!
Thank you Beverly for being such an amazing part of my life!!  I’ll end this facebook post the same way Beverly ended every phone conversation that she was ready to be done with -  anyhoo…  


Your organization and focus got me through many things. The wedding cakes, and we made some beautiful ones! But for some reason we never took any pictures, this I am not sure why. I will always remember and cherish those times we spent making those cakes. And the times after delivery when we would hit the bar for a couple of “cocktails”.
I will miss you calling on my birthday and reading me my yearly horoscope from the chronicle. I will miss the cartoons you would cut out and put into random notes and send to me. The thought and effort you put into everything to make us happy, like wrapping my can of soda in the comics so I could read them at lunch when I was at school.
There are too many ways to tell you how I will miss you. But I will always be talking to you as I talk out loud when no one is around. And I know you will be listening.

As a Memaw, she made things fun.  Baking and decorating cakes, running trains in the backyard with Dylan and Papa, Christmas Nutcracker Ballet with Paige and I, Stockings at Christmas and Easter Egg Hunts every year– every holiday was complete.  Memaw and Papa were always there to help with the kid shuffle, attend school and sporting events, babysit and help anytime we needed.  Memaw was fun and Papa too.  Because of their support, we could work to support our family knowing that our kids were always taken care of and supported.  

My mom created traditions and memories, everything she did had a purpose.  Christmas ornaments every year for the kids from Hallmark and Waterford Ornaments for me.  Bracelet charms for Paige and trains and planes for Dylan.  She left her mark, you know what she gave you and you cherish it.  My mom gave everyone cards for every occasion and saved every card she received, and by example, I do the same.  Always signed and always dated and always with special meaning. 

The last two years have been very trying for my parents.  Hurricane Harvey flooding and a cancer diagnosis within months of each other were very hard blows.  We recovered from the hurricane which I deemed the most difficult thing my family had ever faced until my mom’s cancer diagnosis.  How could this happen, my mom was supposed to be here forever or atleast for a long long time?  From the beginning, mom’s diagnosis was not easy.  She mom was a trooper trying so hard to win the battle that she was given doing any treatment they prescribed.  We had good times and bad times throughout this battle that we knew would not end in our favor.  We wish our time was longer but in the end we know she is now in Heaven with our Lord and no longer suffering – we are thankful to have our angel looking down over us every moment of every day.  The support from family and friends through this time was remarkable and I am so thankful.  



My mom was my rock, my daily download, my sounding board, my role model, my encourager, my shoulder to cry on, my biggest cheerleader, my shopping buddy and fashion critic, my friend.  My mom was generous, thoughtful, sentimental and big hearted.  My mom was the person that I would call when good things or bad things would happen, when her phone would ring she would always answer.  She was my listener…..such a hard habit to break.

My mom was dedicated wife to my father and an amazing mother to us growing up.  From dinner on the table every night, a brown bag lunch to take to school and folded laundry on your bed, my mom did it all.  My mom was the cool mom, the one my friends liked.  Our house was a safe house, a house that you could call upon when you needed a lifting word or advice on a situation.  All of this is confirmed by the sweet sentiments I have received this week from friends near and far.  For her children, she only wanted the best.  She and dad work so hard to provide us with the opportunities we wanted in life.  I would not be who I am today if it were not for my parents and the example they set and the support they provided.  From the bottom of my heart I thank you both and am so grateful to have been part of your story.

My mom was an excellent cook and baker.  The recipes she left behind are cherished and part of our traditions.  When I went to college, she made me a recipe box with some of her favorite recipes included.  I love to get them out and see her handwriting.  Texas Trash and Lemon Meringue Pie, Butter Cookies, Pecan Tassies and Buttermilk Pecan Pie along with Grandma’s Stuffing come to mind – I have some work to do to perfect my ability to recreate these cherished treats to satisfy the family’s taste buds.  Though I have made them all before, they were always better when mom made them.  

I am deeply saddened that I am just now (Sunday night) hearing of Beverly's passing.  So sorry that I didn't know and didn't attend the funeral.  We do not take the Chronicle.

Forest, Kelly, FD, Duane and Jimmy I know she was a strong member of your family and will deeply missed.  I knew she was ill but had no idea she was critical.

My fondest memories are our days of childhood on Mossrose.  The Brandt house was always the best place to be.  I dearly loved Beverly and share in your loss.  So sad that all our lives get so busy. 

The few times I saw Beverly she was such a nice, charming person.  It's 12:30 on Saturday.  I  just saw this so I didn't attend her funeral. May you all be blessed with her memories............................

We have known  sweet Beverly since our high school days. We are family in the truest sense of the word.  She was a warm, funny, and a loving person. Her family was the center of her life. She was a diligent professional woman, but most importantly, she loved her husband well. 

In visiting with both Harv and Beverly a few months ago, she spoke of her love for each family member. Brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and her very special  son and daughter..and her beautiful “grands”.

We believe that she faced her ordeal with great courage.  We will always admire that.

God bless the Musick and Brandt families. His peace and comfort to each one of you as you celebrate her life.
