With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Bill Phuoc Tran, who left this world on June 16, 2025, at the age of 87.
Phouc, known to his loved ones simply as Ba, was a kind, gentle, and quietly strong man. With a sharp wit and a warm heart, he brought light and love into every space he entered. He spent his final days at home, surrounded by the comfort of family and the steadfast love of his wife of over 60 years.
Phuoc was born on September 29, 1938, in My Tho, Vietnam, 1 of 9 siblings. In 1979, after the fall of Vietnam, he made the courageous decision to flee his homeland with his wife, children, and extended family. Risking everything for the future of his loved ones, he embarked on a harrowing journey across the ocean—armed only with determination, his faith, his mechanical ingenuity, and a dream. Through immense challenges and uncertainty, he navigated the way to safety and a new life in the United States. For this profound act of bravery and love, we are eternally grateful.
Once in the U.S., Phuoc rebuilt his life with incredible resilience. A gifted mechanic and craftsman, he designed and built fishing boats from bare shells and developed a career that revolved around his lifelong love for the ocean. Whether fixing engines or hauling in the day’s catch, his hands were always at work, and his heart always with his family. Many of our most cherished memories involve the fresh seafood he would bring home after long days out at sea—gifts of the ocean that nourished our bodies and symbolized his unwavering care.
Phuoc was a man of few words, but his love spoke loudly through action. He showed up in the quiet, consistent ways that matter most—asking if you’d eaten, reminding you to check your oil, or making sure you had enough gas in your car. What may have seemed like fussing at the time, we now understand was his way of protecting and providing, always.
In his earlier years, he loved telling stories to friends, singing cải lương, fixing cars, and embracing every stray dog we brought home. He touched many lives with his generosity, humor, and humility. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a selfless father, and a beloved grandfather who found deep joy in his growing family.
Phuoc is survived by his wife of over 60 years, his five children, and six grandchildren, who will continue to carry his spirit forward with pride, gratitude, and love.
He will be deeply missed—and forever remembered—as a man who sacrificed everything to give his family a better life.
Flowers are welcomed and appreciated.
