Billie Jean Worsham Sterner, 73, of Houston, Texas went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2019. She was born in Orange, Texas on January 25, 1946 to S.C. Worsham and Irene Medeiros Teves Worsham. Billie leaves behind her beloved family and husband of 47 ½ years Arden Ray Sterner and their children Tina Marie Sterner Shaunfield, Troy Allen Sterner & Pepper Ray Sterner and his wife Pricilla Inez Ramirez Sterner as well as their six grandchildren Taylor Lindsey Shaunfield, DeVanté Romeo Sterner, Angelica Reyna Sterner, Donovan Reneé Sterner, Devin Ray Sterner, Chase Allen Sterner and his wife Fabiana Mabel Gomez Sterner. As well as her sister, Medeiros (Doris) Margarete Worsham Norris, brother, Leonard Ray Worsham, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by sister, Francis Elizabeth Worsham Lee.
Growing up, Billie at the age of five, started singing gospel music in Orange, Texas with her sisters who were three and four years of age. Their father and mother had a great love for the Gospel ministry and formed "The Worsham Quartet" when their little brother joined them as they continued to sing gospel music. Billie was 18 when her sisters and brother, known as "The Worsham Family Singers", recorded their first album "I'll Follow My Jesus". After appearing on the radio station, KTLW in Texas City, Texas KTLW carried them for two years as the demand for their special mixture of southern spiritual Gospel music spread from churches to concert halls and conventions.
Billie was a loving and devoted wife who cherished her 47 ½ years of marriage to her husband, sweetheart, and best friend Arden Ray Sterner. The beautiful love story began in 1971 in Great Falls, Montana where Billie was singing on stage with her sister. Billie walked up to the table where Arden and his friend were sitting and asked Arden if he had a song request. Arden requested “Cold, Cold Heart” by Hank Williams and that very night Arden told his friend that he was going to marry her. Soon after, Arden asked Billie to marry him; and on Christmas Eve 1971, they began their journey together as husband and wife. The relationship they shared was truly a testimony of their unconditional love and devotion to one another.
She chose to spend her time surrounded by the people she loved the most. Billie was an amazing wife, mother, grandma, sister and aunt who touched our hearts and made our lives richer. We hold dear those special times that we shared with her in love, laughter, music and faith. Billie and Arden both had a deep passion for serving the Lord and giving to those in need. With faith in God’s provision they served others knowing and trusting the Lord every step of the way. We can rejoice today knowing that our Mom is seated at the right hand of our Lord and Savior wearing her Heavenly crown as the Lord tells her "Well done, my good and faithful servant".
Until we meet again in Heaven.
