

Billy Elmo Hammack, age 86, passed away in his home in Houston on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Bill was born on January 27, 1931 in Hamilton Texas. He was raised in the farming community of Aleman, Texas. He was a Texan through and through. Bill loved to share stories of the farm, grabbing a Coke after a hard day of work, and walking 2 miles to school each day. As a farmer’s son, he learned the value of hard work in overcoming life’s obstacles.
After graduating as the valedictorian of his high school class, Bill joined the Air Force and later earned a diploma from Brantley Draughon Business College Fort Worth and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas in 1956. He began working at Tennessee Gas Company in Houston where he met his beautiful wife, Carolyn. He then spent many years as an accountant at NASA Johnson Space Center where he retired after 29 years of Federal service.
Bill is preceded in death by his father and mother, William Taylor and Ocie Ola Hammack, and brothers, William Taylor Hammack Jr. and Eldon Hammack.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Sparkman Hammack; children Ann Johnson and husband John; Stephen Taylor Hammack, Sandra Boyle and significant other John. He is also survived by grandchildren Shelby, Jennifer, Mary Carolyn, William, Taylor and Hunter.
On Friday, March 17, a visitation is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. and a funeral service at 11:15 a.m. at Advantage Funeral Home on 7010 Chetwood Dr., Houston, Texas 77081. At 2:15 p.m., he will be laid to rest at the Houston Veteran’s National Cemetery.
