Blackmon Powell

Lane and J.W. Powell Sr. in Mansfield, LA, on August

18, 1951. BJ was a force to be reckoned with from the

get-go, graduating from Sanderson Elementary, Terrel

Middle and Kashmere High School in 1965. He married

Brenda Faye Powell.

BJ worked for Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, later

known as LyondellBasell for many years. He enlisted in

the United States Army, where he valued his service

highly. Proud owner of Powell Trucking and a licensed

realtor, BJ enjoyed landscaping, driving his big truck,

“Punkin”, dominoes, cards, Yahtzee and spending time

with his family.

BJ is preceded in death by his wife Brenda Faye Powell;

his parents, Janie Mae Lane and J.W. Powell, Sr.; three

brothers, Jerry Lee Gordan, Harvey Lane, J.W. Powell Jr.

and one sister Rosie Marie Gordan.

BJ is survived by his two sisters, Patricia Frank and

Jeanette Holt-Frank; five children, Kimberly Powell,

Demetris Johnson, Tarius Morris (Erwin), Blackmon

Powell Jr., Bryant Jermaine Powell; thirteen grandchildren:

Dedrick, Demarcus, Dysha, Treasure, Priya, Daysha,

Damaya, Kehreon, Kenya, Denym, Bryson, Brielle; three

great-grandchildren: MaKenzie, Makenah, Kai, and a

host of other relatives; a special friend, Valerie Sutton.

We will miss our BJ, Uncle Junior, Astro Cat 851 and

Paw-Paw, more than words can say.
