Bobby Wayne Porter was born August 29, 1935, to J.C. and Annie Mae Porter. Bob graduated from Lancaster High School and then North Texas University. He worked as an auditor for a few years for Fannie Mae, then for Maxsom, Mahoney & Turner where he was a Vice President.
He met his future wife, Donna Murphy, when he was 39, in a church Sunday School Class in Dallas.
After a short courtship, they were married by her father on June 20, 1974, in Pennsylvania. Since Donna was only 28, Bob's friends said he "robbed the cradle."
After a company buyout, he was recruited and then hired by American General a short time later. And they moved to Houston, Texas in late 1975.
They have one son, David Lee Porter, born in 1979. When David was three years old, the Porter family began attending Spring Branch Church of the Nazarene, where David had attended the Day Care, since he was 7 months old. The church later moved to Bear Creek, and became Living Word Church. Bob enjoyed being an usher for several years until he was unable to walk steadily.
David married in 2004, to Keri Holt. He and Keri have three children: Caden 16, Caffrey 11, and Coen 6.
All three grandchildren were adored by "Papa",who was so proud of each of them.
After a very short hospital stay, Bob went home to his Heavenly Father on January 5, 2024 at the age of 88.
A Memorial Service for Bobby will be held Saturday 10am, March 2, 2024 at Living Word Church of the Nazarene, 16607 Clay Road, Houston, Texas 77084.
