Bomi was born to Dhunjibhoy and Dolat (Siganporia), in Bombay, India on August 13, 1944, the middle child of three. He was a competitive youth, earning a record of 99-1-0 as an amateur boxer, and entering many swimming and bodybuilding competitions. He received law and economics degrees before starting work at the Bank of India. Bomi was introduced to his future wife Roshan by her brother at this time, and was excited about starting his new family after their marriage in1971. His daughter Dilnawaz was born and quickly became his favorite topic of discussion. One of his favorite oft-repeated stories was coming home from work on his motorcycle, his father would bring Dilnawaz downstairs to sit on his bike, and they would take a ride around the block, often stopping for ice cream.
In 1975, Bomi and Roshan made the decision to move their young family to Tallahassee, Florida to join Roshan’s brothers. There Bomi started work at Florida State University while also attending classes there, graduating in 1980. Their son Minoo was born in 1976, and completed their family.
Bomi loved his dogs, and gifted his daughter a German Shepherd puppy, Tiger, for her 7th birthday, starting a decades-long history of dog ownership and love for the entire family. In later years Bomi and Roshan expressed their love by making frequent donations to Austin German Shepherd Dog Rescue and other animal charities.
The family moved to Houston, Texas in 1981, and Bomi began a career at the University of Houston, and experienced a newfound love of basketball, starting with the Houston Cougars Phi Slama Jama team, and later the Houston Rockets. He passed his great love of sports (and competitive nature) on to his two children, frequently attending professional games, as well as high school games.
Bomi and family traveled extensively through the United States, taking memorable annual car summer vacations to the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Mammoth Caves, and many other amazing landmarks. The cornerstone of his life was absolutely his family and his Zoroastrian faith, and he was eager to be a part of the small but growing Zorastrian community in Houston, and to have his children attend Sunday School with other families and learn about their faith. The Houston Zoroastrian community was in fact his second family, and he relished attending the Navroze celebrations, Jashans, Navjotes, and also the Pana Parties and Men's Night Out.
Bomi and Roshan were fortunate enough to continue engaging their love of travel throughout their lives, taking many cruises, and trips everywhere from Alaska to Europe to Southeast Asia. In their later years that included many trips to London to visit their new grandson Leo, who immediately became the favorite, followed closely by the grand-dogs.
Bomi’s beloved wife Roshan passed away in 2025, and the loss of her after 54 years of marriage had an irreversibly devastating effect on his soul. He struggled with health challenges, and never fully returned to his joyful out-sized personality. Ultimately, he died of a broken heart, but he lived his life with tremendous love, kindness, and gratitude for the blessings of his family.
Bomi was preceded in death by his parents Dhunjibhoy and Dolat, his sister Katy, brother Aspi, and his wife Roshan. He is survived by his daughter Dilnawaz, son Minoo, grandson Leo, daughter-in-law Karina, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
