

Carl Altenburger, born on September 13, 1942, entered eternal peace on July 14, 2025, in Houston, Tx. He was 82 yrs. old. He was preceded in death by his parents (Herman and Imogene), as well as his wife (Barbara) and his brothers Dennis (Connie) and Robert (Betsy). He is survived by his brother Marcus (Kate) and his sister Mary Ellen and several nieces and nephews, as well as Jennifer, his longtime friend and caregiver.
Carl graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from St. Edwards University with a degree in English. He then tried the Peace Corps and then joined the United States Navy. Following his service, he attended the University of Houston where he earned a degree in Secondary Education.
In 1972 Carl married his wife, Barbara. They lived in San Francisco, Branson, Missouri and later moved to Houston. Carl worked as a Property Tax Appraiser while they were in Missouri and finished his career with the Ft. Bend County Appraisal District. He and Barbara enjoy many years at the Renaissance Festival in Plantersville where they would have a booth and sell handmade candles and hand-crafted items.
Carl frequently attended the Good Old Boys luncheon at St. Thomas High School with his brothers Bob and Marc. He was a kind and gentle soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He was also a member of Mensa. As a young man, Carl enjoyed writing and wrote various poems that he shared with the family.

A funeral service will be held at the American Heritage Funeral Home, located at 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, on July 31, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm.
Following the funeral service, a graveside service will take place at the Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, on July 31, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 1:20 pm.
