Carla Ransleben Clayton, 72, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor passed away peacefully on the 15th of December 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born to Norman and Bettye Ransleben on the 29th of August 1953, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was the youngest of four children.
On the 12th of February 1977, Carla married the love of her life, Kenneth Lynn Clayton. Together they shared forty-eight wonderful years of marriage, building a family rooted in love and laughter. Carla is survived by her devoted husband Kenneth and their three children: Courtney Daniel and her husband Josh; Mark Clayton and his wife Kallise; and Kelley Clayton. She was the proud and adoring grandmother to Heath Clayton Daniel, Parker Fillip Daniel, Catherine Jane Clayton, and Mason Frederick Clayton, who affectionately called her “CC.” Carla also leaves behind her sisters Sheila Senterfitt and Sandra Braddock (David); sister-in-law Suzanne Ransleben; brother-in-law John M. Clayton IV (Bonnie); brother-in-law William B. Oliver (Jenny); and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Norman Ransleben and brother-in-law Rodney Senterfitt.
Carla’s life was marked by service and dedication. She retired from AECC, Inc. after forty-four years of loyal work. She contributed to her community through the Junior League of Houston, eight years as a Girl Scout leader, and the River Oaks Luncheon Club. She also served as treasurer for every sports team her children participated in, embodying her commitment to family and community.
Carla was a true Southern lady who delighted in hosting family and friends. Her home was always open and decorated for the season, and she took joy in bringing people together for meals, cocktails in the parlor, and Bunco nights. Known for her quick wit and unmatched sense of humor, she always brought joy to those around her. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her children, and to countless others, she was “Mama C” — a second mom always ready with guidance, comfort, and a warm smile. She was a stranger to no one, making friends wherever she went, including the many dedicated nurses who cared for her. Even in the most difficult of times, Carla always expressed gratitude and grace. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Delia and Nancy for their exceptional care and kindness over the years.
Carla’s legacy is one of generosity, warmth, selflessness, and unwavering love. She always put others’ needs before her own and lived life with a spirit of kindness and hospitality. Carla will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit of kindness and joy will live on in the lives of everyone she touched.
A memorial service and celebration of Carla’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 25th of January 2026, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer. In keeping with Carla’s wishes, loved ones are invited to wear bright colors and join in a joyful gathering—a true party—to honor her vibrant life.
The family will gather for a private inurnment service at the Garden of the Holy Cross Riverway at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family encourages contributions to a charity of one’s choice, reflecting Carla’s lifelong devotion to helping others.
