September 29, 1935 - May 10, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Carlos Alberto Mattioli, M.D., born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Maria Florinda Seoane and Carlos Alberto Mattioli. He joins his wife, Martha Luisa Mattioli, M.D., and is survived by their five children (Valeria, Carlos, Carolina, Federico and Esteban); 14 grandchildren (Sandra, Carlos, Jack, Marta, Katie, Caroline, Madeline, Nathan, Fred, Francesca, Christian, Nicolas, Lucas, and Josephine); 6 great grandchildren (Sebastian, Anastasia, Andrea, Maximilian, William, and Stella), and his sisters-in-law (Monica and Maria de Los Angeles).
Carlos met the love of his life, Martha, at age 17, married her in 1960, and they spent 70 years building a life together. He received his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires.
Having an endless thirst for knowledge and experiences, he emigrated to Buffalo, NY, in 1965 to work for the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, conducting state of the art research in cancer.
In 1973, he furthered his education at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, completing a two year residency in pathology in a single year.
Having had enough of the winter snow, he moved the family to Houston, TX, in 1974. In Houston, he was a clinical pathologist and chief of immunology at The Methodist Hospital and a professor at Baylor College of Medicine.
After many years of serving the Houston community, he worked in El Paso serving that area and the surrounding American Indian reservations in nearby states.
In 2001, he began working at Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, TX, where he happily commuted and served for over 15 years.
Carlos never really retired, serving the Hispanic community in Houston while also working contract employment until shortly before his passing. He touched and saved countless lives with his expert diagnosis of illnesses, was always willing to help family, friends, and others however he could. Having completed his calling here, may he now rest in eternal peace with his family members in the presence of God.
