She was born August 3, 1925, in Chiclen, Peru to Delfina Gamarra and Adan Velasquez.
Carmen fondly remembered her childhood spent with her mother and her grandfather in the country. She spoke of her family in Peru with so much love and adoration and often reminisced about her mother's good cooking.
As a young woman, she met and planned a life with Manuel Ruiz, with whom she had their beloved daughter. Afflicted with an unexpected illness, her future took a different path. She thought she would not live pass her twenties, but God had different plans for her. She lived to watch her grandchildren grow and met four great grandchildren who loved their "Carmen Rosa" dearly.
She was a skilled dressmaker and tailor in Peru and was later an avid knitter and crocheter. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, even up until her last moments. She loved gardening and had great affection for the family dogs over the years. She provided much needed support to her grandchildren.
She was a humble, kind, and strong and passed on her strength to her daughter and grandchildren. She left this world as she entered it, without any hate in her heart.
Carmen Rosa Velasquez is survived by her daughter (Carmen Gladys Ruiz); 3 grandchildren (Peter, Jessica, and Celina Michelle); her grandaughters' spouses (Jamal ("Jay") and Dan); 4 great-grandchildren (Ricky, Phoebe, Joshua Manuel, and Maryam); siblings (Felipe and Angelita); and a nearly infinite amount of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother (Delfina) and her siblings Leoncio, Victoria, and Paula.
She was loved and her warm smile will be missed every day. Her spirits lives on in all whose lives she touched.
