Carolyn Bickley Eckels passed away on Wednesday, the 21st of April 2021, in Houston, Texas at the age of 90. Born on the 21st of July 1930 in Houston, Texas, she was the third child born to Charles Edward Bickley and Winona Beach Lamar Bickley.
Carolyn’s favorite memories included growing up with her many friends in the Houston Heights. She fondly recalled her time with the Reagan Red Coats and college years at Texas State Women’s College, Sam Houston State University, and the University of Houston, where she earned her BS, allowing her to enjoy many years teaching Home Economics.
Carolyn married Robert Young Eckels, Jr. on the 29th of December 1949, at Grace United Methodist Church. She retired from education to raise their children.
Carolyn devoted her life to her immediate and extended family and particularly loved when they would gather at the family bay house and for large holiday celebrations. She was very active in the founding of Grace Presbyterian Church and enjoyed sharing her beautiful voice in the church choir.
Carolyn’s greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren who will miss her humor and unconditional love. She will be remembered for living a life of grace and dignity.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Robert Allen Eckels and wife Jet; daughter, Carol Ann Eckels Adams and husband Hill; grandchildren Anne Elizabeth Adams Harrington and husband Jared, Robert Sterling Adams and wife Cheyenne, and Kirby Rae Eckels; and numerous nephews and nieces.
